Der Name Ishidō (石道) kommt aus dem Japanischen und bedeutet schlicht Steinweg, vgl. den englischen Titel des Spiels. 石 (ishi) bedeutet Stein, 道 (dō) Weg oder Straße. Im Chinesischen haben die Zeichen dieselbe Bedeutung, werden aber anders ausgesprochen (shídào).
Das Spiel wurde ab 1990 von Accolade auch für Apple Macintosh, Sega Mega Drive, Game Boy, Amiga, Famicom Disk System, FM Towns, MSX2, PC-8801/PC-9801 und X68000 veröffentlicht.
